Winding up the week
Sometimes it’s kind of nice to have a bit of a shorter collection of stories to go through. TGIF, amiright?! Newsrooms in Edmonton are obviously busy covering the Oilers playoff run, and there’s a lot of focus on Fort McMurray one year after the wildfire. So, we get to ride off into the weekend with just a few stories to contemplate.
You are, of course, free to re-live the entire week (or month) in our Headlines archive, if you need to kill more time until the end of the work day.
What will be the legacy of that 80-storey tower just approved for the top of Edmonton’s river valley east of the downtown? It’s contentious for a whole pile of reasons, so it’s going to be tough for builders to win over more fans, especially from the downtown neighbourhoods it will rise above.
A shout-out to Edmontonian Jodine Chase this week too, for live-tweeting the public hearing on the tower Monday night. This is the kind of coverage that’s needed in today’s digital world and Jodine out-tweeted the newsrooms on this one.

Edmonton is about to have its first shipping container apartment building. This is all sorts of good ideas rolled into one. Let’s hope we continue to see this kind of development, and other innovations, as more homes are built and redeveloped in out city.
You could get a box full of Edmonton-made goodies and products delivered to your home every month. The YEG Box is a great idea!
